Employment Exploration Services

Employment Exploration Services are designed to help individuals understand the opportunities available in competitive, integrated employment settings. These services focus on building awareness, knowledge, and confidence through personalized experiences and learning activities. The aim is to equip each person with a deeper understanding of various industries, job roles, and workplace environments so they can make informed choices about their future career path.

Key components include educational visits to community businesses to learn about various job sectors, career education sessions that delve into different types of occupations, and peer mentorship opportunities. Individuals may also engage in job shadowing and volunteer work experiences that help them explore real-world job settings. Support is also offered in understanding the interaction between employment and government benefits, as well as exploring necessary workplace accommodations such as assistive technology or modified schedules.

Competitive, Integrated Employment

Competitive, Integrated Employment refers to work situations where individuals are paid at or above minimum wage or an industry-standard rate with comparable benefits such as health insurance or leave time. This model emphasizes full inclusion—meaning employees with disabilities work alongside others in typical workplace environments.

The goal is to foster financial independence and personal fulfillment by ensuring equal access to jobs that match a person’s strengths and preferences. Through direct experiences and ongoing guidance, individuals become familiar with what a meaningful, inclusive job looks like and how it can fit into their lives.

Employment Development Services

Employment Development Services are tailored to support individuals in securing long-term, meaningful employment. Whether aiming for a job in the community or planning to start a personal business, these services offer the structure and support needed to achieve those goals.
Job Development Services
Job Development Services help individuals prepare for and obtain competitive employment. This includes personalized coaching in job search techniques, resume and cover letter creation, interview skills, and using community resources. Assistance may also include outreach to employers to identify job openings that align with a person’s strengths and interests. After employment is secured, individuals receive orientation support and job coaching for up to 30 days. These services ensure a smooth transition and early success in the workplace. Additionally, benefits planning is provided to help individuals understand how employment may affect their existing benefits and how to manage those changes.
Self-Employment and Microenterprise Business Development Services
For individuals with an entrepreneurial mindset, this service supports the planning and launching of a small business or microenterprise—defined as a business with five or fewer employees, including the owner. Support begins with identifying a viable business idea, then developing a business plan, securing start-up funding, choosing a legal structure, and registering the business. Individuals also receive help acquiring necessary permits, certifications, and insurance. There is continued support in navigating how self-employment impacts benefits. Regular check-ins and advisory sessions help ensure that the business is both compliant and sustainable over time.
